Typical Tool Steel Characteristics
Tool steels are as the name suggests used to make “tools” which then go on to form the shapes of other alloys. The reason for this is;
- Resistance to abrasion and deformation
- Ability to hold a cutting edge even at elevated temperatures
- Tool steels can be “worked” at both cold and elevated temperatures
- Temperature resistance
- Shock resistance, the do not easily fracture when a force is applied
